Program Assistant
 
The Asia Foundation (the Foundation) in China supports programs focusing on rule of law, governance, environmental protection, disaster management, women’s empowerment, and community development. The Foundation is soliciting applications from resident Chinese nationals for Program Assistant positions based in the Foundation’s Beijing office to support program activities related to governance, law, women’s empowerment, and/or charity sector strengthening.
 
Job Summary:
The Program Assistant will report to and work with Foundation Program Officers on the following:
 
Program Development

  • Research and identify key policy and social problems and issues and design new program ideas and activities as necessary in relevant areas.
  • Participate in fundraising and networking efforts with current and potential donors.
  • Develop content for the Foundation’s website, blog, and other communications materials.
  • Assist in designing monitoring and evaluation plans as needed to assess program impact of programs.
  • Maintain database on program activities and the activities of comparator organizations and international donors active in China.
     
    Program Management/Implementation
  • Support the implementation of program activities,  including making logistical arrangements; drafting grant agreements; developing work plans/budgets; ensuring timely submission of deliverables and reports; and developing/editing/translating deliverables and reports.
  • Maintain regular contacts/communications with project donors, partners, grantees, subcontractors, consultants, and experts as required by program activities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the work of consultants/experts on program activities.
  • Review, provide feedback on, and ensure quality of all project deliverables .
  • Assist in monitoring and assessing project progress and results, including through site visits and other methods for collection and analysis of performance data.
  • Update work plan and monitoring and evaluation plan regularly.
  • Monitor and update project budgets in collaboration with Supervisor and finance/grants staff.
  • Maintain program files.
     
    Other
  • Attend and participate in meetings, workshops, and other events as requested.
  • Contribute to fundraising and networking efforts with current and potential donors.
  • Assist with translation and interpretation.
     
    Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, Gender Studies, Sociology, or related social science field).
  • Minimum 2-3 years relevant working experience.  
  • Interest in and knowledge of one or more of the following program areas within the Chinese context: governance; law; gender; charity sector.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to develop and manage work plans and budgets.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Experience working for an international organization preferred.
  • Experience with international fundraising preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Chinese and English.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Must be a team player and self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Excellent computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
